What Causes Nose Bleeds In A Person With Dementia?
my mother has a history of mini strokes, and moderate dementia from these events. she falls pretty regularly and has recently told us of nose bleeds. I do not live near her, and my brother who does has not taken her to a neurologist for several years. I guess I am asking if all of these things are related and what, we should do or expect
Hi, I had gone through your clinical history and I can understand your concerns. If I were your treating physician I would do a detailed clinical examination and history. As per your description the most probable differentials are 1.Since she had a history of stroke, she is probably taking blood thinners like aspirin for long term. These drugs make her more prone for bleeding and any minor trauma or falls cause profuse bleeding. 2.Second possibility is hypertension, hypertension is a major cause of epistaxis(nasal bleeding) especially in elderly. There are other causes which have to be ruled out before making a diagnosis. I suggest you to consult a general practitioner and get a CT scan of head with paranasal sinuses,She might also need base line investigations and ENT examination to rule out local causes of nasal bleeding. Hope this answers your query,If you have any further doubts feel free to contact us.
