Hi,I am Dr. Alexander H. Sheppe (Psychiatrist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am a 62 year old woman. I have diabetes. and am overweight. I have lost some weight. My question is this I have notices for the last maybe a year or so (but most recently since I had a bad cold in November) that I cannot really taste anything. When I eat foods, the real taste is dulled. I can seem to taste the salt more in the food. I do not add salt to anything anymore. But seems as if my taste buds are disapearing. what can I do? and what may be the underlying cause.?
Thanks for contacting HCM. You have not mentioned the medicines you are taking as some medicines as their side effects can affect your taste buds. In your case as you are diabetic, this could be because of fungal infection. I would suggest you to keep your blood glucose levels under control and take clotrimazole oral drops/paint 10-15 drops twice daily on your tongue. Keep the medicine for as long as possible in mouth then swallow. Regards
