What Causes Numbness In Hand, mouth, weakness Of Legs And Slurred Speech?

Last night I experienced (not for the 1st time) bilateral hand numbness, numbness around my mouth, weakness of my legs with the inability to stand and slurred speech after taking my nighttime meds (1000mg glucophage, 75mg topamax, 100mg otc sleep aides). I have taken this every night for over 4 years and this happens approximately 4 times a year. Last night was the first time I tried to stand up during this & fell to the floor due to weakness in my legs. I had a migraine the day before & had just eaten approximately 8-9 shrimp. I ve been told that I have 1) Basilar migraines & 2) TIA s but no definitive diagnosis for either. I feel like I am having mini-strokes but all I m told to do is take a baby aspirin & I quit going to the ER as all they would do was tell me to have a seat in the waiting room till I could see a doctor, so I felt it must not be THAT much of an emergency to warrant going everytime this happens.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi, thank you for posting.

I have gone through your query and I understand your concerns.

I think that it might be a cerebral hemorrhage(cerebral insult) and it is not related to medicines that you are currently taking.
To confirm the diagnosis you need the following tests:
1. Head magnetic resonance imaging.
2. Electroencephalography.
3. International normalized ratio test.
4. Complete blood count.
5. Glucose test.
6. Lipid test.

*You should immediately consult your neurologist, because this is an emergency.

I hope this answer is helpful.

Take Care.
Dr. Behar.
