What Causes Numbness In Hands While On Xeloda In A Colorectal Cancer Patient?

My husband has correctal cancer and after radiation and surgery he is taking Xeloda for 6 months. He s almost at the end of the 6 months. He has started having numbness in both hands and is dropping things. What causes this and is it related in any way to the cancer?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Xeloda oral is not known to have any side effect related to numbness of hands, reducing finger grips. It has to be something else. Your husband should have reassessment of the cancer as well as investigations to assess health of cervical spine or anything else that interferes with neurogenic symptoms (peripheral neuritis, vitamin B12 deficiency, muscle health).

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
