What Causes Nystagmus Leading To Dizziness And Tingling Sensation In Fingers?

Hi, I m a 35 year old female who had a bout of vertigo in December 2015. I also had nystagmus with it. Once the vertigo subsided (which took a good week), I went to physical therapy to get rid of the nystagmus. I have had lingering fogginess/strange lightheadness feelings, tingling in both of my pinky fingers (notice only when laying on my back during sleep - it wakes me up) and a lazy eye. I did have a MRI, but it was negative. I ve seen an ENT and my hearing and visit was normal. The ENT did different tests in office with me watching his finger and how my eyes followed, etc. Again, all was normal. I m at a loss as to what is going on. Do you feel my next step should be a neurologist? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

You are suffering from nystagmus that leads to dizziness. It is commonly caused due to genetic problems, inner ear conditions, head trauma, stroke, MS or drug / alcohol abuse, etc. It is good to know that you had ENT check up and reports are fine. You are suggested to get clinically examined by a GP to detect the pathology that is causing you dizziness and tingling sensation.

You will have to get few required blood tests, investigations and imaging tests done. You may be referred to a neurologist for further management, get nerve conduction velocity tests, etc., done. You will be treated accordingly. In the meantime, you should take food good for the nerves and also take supplements like NervUp OD, once daily for 10-15 days. Avoid taking alcohol and addictions if any.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
