What Causes Oesophageal Spasms Along With Tingling Sensation On Roof Of Mouth?

My son (24 yo), s has developed allergic reactions to certain foods. He experiences tingling on the roof of his mouth and gums and tongue and lips and eyelids. Then, he gets a very painful esophageal spasm. This has occurred 6 times-while eating wheat tortilla chips and twice while eating a salad from Sweet Greens in Wahington DC. I think he should see an allergist. Thanks

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and welcome.

I concur, he needs an allergist and a few investigations. There is a panel of tests that your child can undergo which tests against all commonly used food items to find out what your child is allergic too. This helps save time and avoid a some times uncomfortable trial and error ith various food and drinks.

For now, I think you need to keep him away from gluten and all other grains and wheat products until we can clarify this as an allergen or not.

Best wishes.
