What Causes Open Sores On The Genitals While On Metronidazole?

A couple weeks ago I had a culture done and found out I had trich and BV. I was then prescribed metronidazole 2 times daily for 7 days. Halfway through my medicine I began to get a rash on my genitals that have now turned into open sores, could this be from the trich/BV? Could it be chancroid? Herpes?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Commonly open sores, blisters or ulcers in the groin & genital area are the first symptoms indicative of STI.

If you are sexually active & have multiple partners you are suggested to get physically examined by a GP & get STD tests done to detect any STI infection.

If test results are positive you will be treated with antibiotics & antivirals. Avoid sex for a couple of days, stay away from unprotected sex & multiple partners.

Take care of your hygiene. Your sex partner should also get evaluated and treated.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K, General & Family Physician
