Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi I am 12 weeks pregnant & had my first scan two days ago. It was discovered on my scan that I have a 5cm cyst. I have had abdominal pain since October last year & doctors could not get to the bottom of what was causing the pain even after an ultrasound & colonoscopy was carried out. Should I be worried about the cyst affecting my pregnancy? I have read that cyst are common during pregnancy but I m concerned as I believe I have had this cyst for some time. Kind Regards Lori
Hello, Welcome to hcm, Few of the Ovarian cyst are hormonally responsive so they tend to increase in size during pregnancy. They may not effect the outcome of pregnancy, but rarely they may rupture or bleed causing acute pain abdomen. I advice you to get regular ultrasound to see for the size of cyst .if there is any severe pain then consult your doctor immediately.
Thank you, Take care
