What Causes Pain Above The Left Hip Bone?

What may be the cause of pain on left side exactly above left hip bone, similar to where you put your hands on your hips(Female, over 65)? Dull, achy, only aided by standing up. Can only sleep on right side. On back or left side, it hurts too much. Have had pain for 2wks, & 2 days. Hurts getting in & out of bed, & raising left foot when driving to put the emergency brake on. Also hurts when coughing. It is almost a constant dull pain. Thank you.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

It could be due to neuropathic causes like sciatica. As of now, you can take drugs like gabapentin for symptomatic relief. If symptoms persist better to consult a neurologist and get evaluated. In that case, you have to get an MRI scan for further assessment.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
