I am going to have a nerve conduction study and EMG on my left arm. I Ave neck pain and burning and tingling in my arm. I am very very scared to have these tests. A friend told me she had it and it was almost as painful as having a baby. Is it painful?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Noted the history about you having pain in the neck and burning and tingling in arm, will undergo nerve conduction studies and EMG. No, these are not painful procedures. If there is pain in neck then you also have to go for the MRI of the neck, an opinion of a Neurosurgeon to Watch for any disc compressing the cervical nerves

Continue the medications you have been prescribed. You may please take symptomatic and supportive management such a Gabapentin and Ibuprofen for pains. Use neck support and avoid unnecessary movements of neck.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T Chandrakant,
ENT & General Surgeon
