What Causes Pain And Swelling In The Arm After A Surgery?

I had surgery on my arm about three months ago when I broke my left radial and ulna, where I had plates and screws put in to correct it. A little while ago I had a significant amount of painful swelling, almost in a bump, at the one part that seemed as if it were at one of the plate ends. It went away, but I m experiencing it again and its quite painful to even make a fist or touch my arm, and its also pounding and occasionally stinging, and its a big swollen bump in the same area. I put ice on it which helps the swelling but not the pain. What could be causing this and how do I treat it or prevent it from doing this yet again?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

As first line management, you can take analgesics like paracetamol or aceclofenac for pain relief.

If symptoms persist, it is better to consult a physician and get evaluated.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain,
