Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have pain and swelling in the right toe for three weeks and have elevated levels of uric acid in blood (7.4). The doctor has advised me to take sodium bicarbonate 900 mg three times a day for 30 days. I am on medication for 2 weeks, swelling is still there. Please advice
As the medicine you are advised should be continued in the Frist stage. The second thing is you can use hot water fermentation or quick icing to reduce the swelling and pain.
Keep the leg elevated over the pillow. If the uric acid levels are high then good water consumption is advised.
Do simple finger and toe movements along with ankle dorsiflexion and plantar flexion so the muscle physiology helps to drain the metabolic waste leading to less swelling.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
