Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Pain Behind The Ear And Feeling Of Ear Blockage With History Of Tonsillitis?
Daughter diagnosed with tonsillitis yesterday. On antibiotics. However, for past few days she is complaining about full feeling in ears (like she is underwater) and pain in her jaw way back by ears. This is on both sides. Doctor saw no fluid and said not ear infection. No fever. Some dizziness and nausea
* As per my clinical experience, the fullness involving ear with sensation of ear blockage indicates sinus congestion or changes in the inner ear pressure of cochlea or associated otitis media from bacterial infection of strep pneumoniae.
* My guidelines at present:
- continue current antibiotics as that of macrolides azithromycin or mox clavulanic acid having excellent results
- gargles with salted lukewarm water added peppermint oil
- analgesic tablet with diclofenac content serving as anti inflammatory as well
- apply ciprofloxacin ear drops in concerned ear and keep the ear plugged with sterile cotton
- take care to avoid entry of water in concerned ear during bathing
* Remain in regular follow up with your doc for best guidelines of cure.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel
