What Causes Pain In Back While Taking Deep Breaths?

i am a 26 year old male about 3 weeks ago i got sick and noticed a bad pain in the middle of my back just to the right side of my spine. it has not gone away my doctor told me to get an xray and nothing showed, he told me that it could be inflammation of the lungs and gave me antibiotics and anti inflamatory medication. so far that has not helped at all i am scheduled for an mri tomorrow morning. is this problem my lung? i have smoked for 6 years in the past i quit last year. what could it be? cancer? pulled muscle or pinched nerve? or something with the lung or other organ? the pain comes from when i breathe in deap breaths at the top of my breath the pain is really bad causing me to take smaller breaths. can you help me im pretty nervous..thank you

Hi,
This could be a case of severe muscle spasm of the upper back muscles. Start with hot packs over the area for 15 min thrice a day. Once pain reduces start upper back strengthening. Do not lift weights and correct your posture.
