What Causes Pain In Left Arm?

I STARTED HAVING PAIN IN LEFT ARM ABOUT TWO WEEKS AGO, IT HURT TO TURN MY ARM FROM SIDE TO SIDE. I ASSUMED I HAD SLEPT ON IT WRONG FIGURED IT WOULD GO AWAY. ABOUT A WEEK AGO I WAS DRIVING AND MADE A LEFT TURN AND THE PAIN GOT WORSE. IT WAS ONLY A PAIN LIKE AS IF IT WAS BRUISED. I TRIED TO SUPPORT THE ELBOW AREA BY WRAPPING IT WITH AN ELBOW WRAP (LIKE AN ACE BANDAGE) HOWEVER TODAY I TOOK IT OFF BECAUSE IT WAS BOTHERING ME AND AS SOON AS I TOOK IT OFF I FELT PAIN TRAVEL DOWN MY ARM AND UP MY ARM. DONT NO IF ITS SOMETHING I SHOULD BE CONCERNED ABOUT BUT IM STARTING TO GET WORRIED.. PLEASE ADVICE.THANK YOU

Hello,

Your pain is probably due to cervical disc degeneration, cervical disc prolapse with nerve root impingement, cervical radiculopathy, brachial plexus neuritis, rotator cuff injury or tennis elbow. Your pain seems to be of neural origin. To those who come to my clinic with similar symptoms, I do recommend rest, and pain relievers like NSAIDs Ibuprofen, Aceclofenac for 10 days.

These are to be taken along with tab. Pantop 40 mg before food as they may cause gastric irritation. Neuromodulators of pain like Pregabalin for 10 days will help. Physical therapy also helps in strengthening the neck muscles and relieving pain. A cervical collar also helps relieve stress on neck muscles. If your pain doesn't come down by the above treatment for 10 days, you need to consult a neurosurgeon or an orthopedic surgeon.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Hello,

Pain in left arm may be because of causes:
1) Shoulder causes like frozen shoulder, deltoid injury
2) Cervical spondylitis
3) Cervical radiculopathy
4) Cervical disc prolapse
5) Rotator cuff injury.
6) Brachial plexus inflammation

Tests necessary to arrive at a specific diagnosis are X-ray of cervical spine, and MRI cervical spine. Treatment options for cervical spondylitis are NSAIDs like Ibuprofen and Aceclofenac for pain relief to be taken twice daily for 1 week. To prevent gastric irritation, tab. Pantop 40 mg once daily before food is recommended.

Cervical collar to reduce weight bearing of head on cervical spine. Physical therapy that may include neck traction and other neck strengthening exercises help in reducing the pain. If the pain is very severe, oral corticosteroids can be started. Please do consult an orthopedic surgeon for accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment with prescription medications.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
