Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Pain In Leg And Arm Inspite Of Being On Atorvastatin?
Hi I took 10 mg atorvastatin for 1 and 1/2 years and got good results but the last two months had severe lkeg and arm pain and stopped it. I felt better in 3 days. That was 6 weeks ago. My Dr wants me to try 5mg of Crestor as he thinks the body processes it differently and less of his patients have complaints. What do you think. I am Female 57 years old. my overall Cholesterol is now 236 and my LDL is 160. My triglicerides and HDL are fine.
Atorvastatin belongs to the group of medications known as HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors or statins that is used in the prevention of heart attacks and strokes by lowering cholesterol and triglyceride levels in the blood. It may cause soreness or weakness in the arms, legs, shoulder, thighs or hips.
Muscle pain or myalgia induced by Atorvastatin usually goes away within 1-2 weeks after stopping its intake. On the other hand, another lipid lowering agent called rosuvastatin may cause muscle pain relatively less than atorvastatin. Creator is the trade of rosuvastatin. For this reason, your prescribing doctor has chosen Crestor for you instead of atorvastatin.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
