Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Pain In Metatarsal Resulting In Difficulty In Walking?
pain around 5th metatarsal for 2 weeks. can play sports on it but next morning a lot of pain with some difficulty walking on it. putting metatarsal pad under it as well a building up my orthodic under the arch did not help. Is it bruised or broken. Age 65. Wt. 190 lbs. ht. 6 ft. very active in tennis, highly competitive. Have hip replacement with no issues.
It looks from your details that you are a active tennis player. If such pain is there for 2 weeks then most common reason behind your pain may be a stress fracture of neck of fifth metatarsal. There are other reasons like turf toe, planter plate disruption at metatarsal region, sesmoiditis, etc.
I will advise you to consult to your orthopedic doctor for help and have an X-ray of foot to rule out a stress fracture. Till then you should avoid excessive strain / stress over your foot. Wear a good quality sports shoes. You may have a good analgesic like Advil for temporary relief.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Mukesh Tiwari, Orthopedic Surgeon
