What Causes Pain In Rib Cage?

Hi My son has ulcerative colitis and has been on a high dose ofPentasa for about 6 months. A month ago his consultant reduced his dose and since that time he has had left side rib pain, nausea and stomach pains. He says the rib pain is a football injury

I think this is connected with his condition and he should get in touch with his consultant

Thanks for your question on Health Care Magic.
I can understand your concern.
Ulcerative colitis is chronic inflammatory disease of intestine. It can affect heart and lungs.
So better to rule out heart and lung related diseases first for his symptoms.
So get done ecg and 2d echo to rule out cardiac diseases.
If both are normal then no need to worry for heart diseases.
Get done chest x ray and PFT (Pulmonary Function Test) to rule out lung pathology.
Of all these are normal then no need to worry. His pain is mostly due to football injury.
Apply warm water pad on affected areas. Give him painkiller and muscle relaxant drugs.
Don't worry, he will be alright.
Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.
