Thank you for posting this question,
According to the patient’s history presented, there are two major health problems: suffering from a chronic gastrointestinal disease and current rib pain painful while breathing.
There are many reasons for Pain originating in the upper abdomen such as non-ulcer dyspepsia,
Peptic ulcer disease, Gastro-esophageal reflux disease, very rarely Cancer, etc.
Additionally, there are many causes for pleurisy (defined as follows: unexpected piercing, intense, scorching or gloomy pain in chest region while you breath) such as chest injuries,
common cold and pleurisy, infections,
autoimmune disorders, cardiac problems,
inflammatory bowel disease, very rarely cancers, etc.
According to my experience and patient’s history, both gastric disorders, chronic inflammatory bowel disease and a minor problem such as common cold or injury blunt may have caused your daughter's rib pain.
My recommendations are:
1. Enough rest and using appropriate analgesics prescribed by her doctor.
2. Continuing appropriate treatment for her chronic intestinal disorders.
3. In case of persistent rib pain, pleurisy and gastric pain I suggest to complete her assessment using, Chest x-ray, Blood and urine routine tests, ECG,
Ultrasound, Computed
tomography (CT) scan,
Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and finally Biopsy.
Please notice that all these tests are not essential (at once) and proper decision has to be made based on her doctor’s physical examination and follow up.
Hope she get well soon,
Regards
