What Causes Pain In The Arm After Receiving A Cortisone Shot?

I had a cortisone shot today for tennis elbow and tendonitis. The shot was in the elbow and a specialist gave me the shot. The shot was terribly painful and my arm and elbow feel worse than when i went in this morning. Is this normal? It s painful to even bend my arm.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

There should be some pain at the site of injection due to the penetration of the needle. This pain should decrease within 24 to 48 hours but if it remains overwhelming as you are experiencing, then you should be reassessed.

If within the 24 to 48 hour period, you are not able to tolerate the level of pain then you should be seen before this time

I hope this helps
