What Causes Pain In The Hand And Numbness On The Fingers?

Hi, I have RA but have had a lot of pain in my right hand at night when I m going to sleep. It s in the fingers and starts with numbness/tingling and pain. By the morning my fingers are curled up and in a lot of pain. It eases up as the day goes but doesn t go away just to get worse at night again. It doesn t seem to be the same as my RA as it s been my right hand mainly and for over two weeks and mainly at night.

I have reviewed your question..
I hope you are aware of the fact that rheumatoid arthritis initially affects the small joints of the hands resulting in joint deformity.
In this scenario, the factor causing pain and tingling in your hand is the compression of median nerve(entrapment neuropathy) which supplies the muscles of your hand. The compression is caused by the joint deformity and inflammation because of the underlying arthritis. The condition is known as "Carpel tunnel Syndrome". It is a known complication of rheumatoid arthritis.
If carpel tunnel syndrome is associated with rheumatoid arthritis, it can be treated with anti inflammatory drugs, steroid injections to reduce inflammation and splinting the hand at night time.
If symptoms are very severe and distressing then surgical release of the sheath covering over the nerve can be done to reduce the compression.
Thank you.
