Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Pain In The Hand And Wrist After Surgery In The Arm?
I broke the bone going into my elbow. I now have a plate and twelve screws. I am working on getting the function back in my arm. Question, why does my hand and wrist hurt so much. Their was a lot of numbness running from my elbo to my little finger but physical therapy seems to b working this out.
Sorry to hear if the sad accident. In fact, fractured bone does cause pain rather these are extremely painful. So if the fracture has been recent one , then the pain is not unexpected and may be severy.
However, it would settle with time. You can use painkiller for it. Regarding the numbness, that probably indicates some nerve damage which is not uncommon with a fracture of long bones.
Physiotherapy is the best option for regain of functions though it may be contributing to the pain a little bit.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Mahboob Ur Rahman , General & Family Physician
