What Causes Pain In The Knees After Receiving A Cortisone Shot?

Ok, my wife had a cortisone shot today in her right lateral hip and 3 hours later developed pain in the area which then went to her knee and down the lateral aspect of her right thigh and calf over the next half hour. She was quite incapacitated and was told that it was a cortisone flair and should go away in a few hours. They recommended ice and ibuprofen which did not help. What is this and why did it happen? Thank you, Anyway. Since I ve been practicing for 46 years, I ll figure it out

Hi,

IM injection in gluteal area (buttock) risks injury to the sciatic nerve. Her pain in the gluteal area with radiation along lateral aspect of right thigh and calf immediately after the shot in right lateral hip-only points towards sciatic nerve injury inadvertently.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
