What Causes Pain In The Neck And Shoulder?

My neck and shoulder (right side) has been bothering me for at least the last three days. I ve tried heat and a topical cream for arthritic pain. I ve taken Advil and Flexeril. It has subsided a little, but it is still there. I cannot fully turn my head to the right without pain. What could be causing the pain?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Neck pain can arise due to many etiology commonly like cervical spondylosis, sprains & strains, tension headache, osteoporosis, trauma, myalgia etc. Looking at your history its difficult to predict the exact cause by the very little history provided, but it is advisable to consult a orthopaedics specialist for further reference. As of now you need to immobilize your neck , use a cervical collar, and can apply diclofenac gel and hot water bags locally.Avoid taking Advil and Flexeril as it is having adverse effect over a long run. You also need to take a X ray Cervical spine AP/Lateral view. Please revert back in any further queries.
Best Regards
