Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Pain In The Neck Radiating To The Base Of The Skull?
My wife has been having significant neck pain radiating up to the low part of her skull. An MRI showed a dark shadow on her spinal bone marrow at the T-1 vertebrae area. The recommendation is to have another MRI with Contrast to get a better view and diagnosis. Can you give me some insight as to what this dark spot/shadow could be? Should we be concerned? Some background: my wife had stage 3 cancer (breast, lymph nodes under arm and lymph nodes in neck) and went through 1 year of chemo and 6 weeks or radiation. This was 30 years ago. Could this dark shadow be reminents of the radiation she received 30 years ago and is now just showing up or is this related to something different or another episode of cancer?
According to your history there's is a possibility of secondaries at t1 vertebrae or it may be osteonecrosis after radiation or it may local collection of pus seen in tuberculosis.
Until contrast is taken it is difficult to say what it is. Please consult your treating doctor he will examine and treat you accordingly.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
