What Causes Pain In The Outer Hip Bone?

Hi, in the last couple of days I have a pain in my upper outer left hip bone. This is not in the join. It is on the top of the outer hip bone. It pain seems to be increasing. I would say on a scale of 1-10 the pain is a 3. Any ideas on what can cause this? I have no bruises and I do not recall hitting anything that cause injury. Thanks for your time.
