Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Pain In The Sternum And Left Side Of The Ribcage?
sternum, and left side of my rib cage ache. It goes from stabbing to just feeling sore and pinched. When I push on it it kind of goes away. Also under my left arm in my armpit and down my left tricep, same applies, if I apply pressure it lessens in severity.
As per your symptoms cause can be cardiac related. Do you have history of hyper acidity?
You need to consult your treating doctor to rule out cause for discomfort. After clinical examination by your treating doctor he may advise ECG or blood investigation or 2-D ECHO. Another possibility due to compression of nerve root there is pain in your chest and arm. Due to occlusion of vessels there can be burning sensation. This can be related to smoking also.
I will advise you to do MRI thoracic spine, HRCT [CHEST] and EMG- NCV [nerve conduction study] X ray may not show details. For these symptoms analgesic and neurotropic medication can be started.Hope this answers your query. If you have additional questions or follow up queries then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your queries.
Wishing you good health.
Take care.
