What Causes Pain In The Upper Right Trunk Area When Suffering From Pleurisy?
My husband was diagnosed with pleurisy about a year ago & has been experiencing pain in upper right area of trunk. He went to his MD about 6 months ago & she said that is normal to have pain still & was not concerned. It is going on a year & he is still experiencing pain on a scale from 1 to 10 a 6. Is it normal to still have pain or should he go to a lung specialist? Thank you,
Your husband has a history of pleurisy. Since the pleura are inflamed & irritated the two layers of pleural membrane rub against one another & trigger pain.
This pain may get transmitted to other organs like neck, shoulders, trunk, etc. Pleurisy is caused by bronchitis and viral infection. Once the infection cures the pain should not be there.
You are suggested to get your husband re-examined by a GP, get X-Ray & other Imaging tests done & get treated at the earliest. He may need intravenous fluids & antibiotics for a faster recovery. Neglect will lead to chronic pain.
Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K, General & Family Physician
