What Causes Pain In Upper Arm Radiating To Wrist While Coughing?

Hello. Several months ago I had a really bad cough. After a few weeks I noticed that every time I coughed, my right arm hurt. Now, several months later, it still hurts and seems to be getting worse. The pain seems to radiate from inside the back, upper arm, down to my wrist. I ve been taking Advil morning noon and night just to kee4p the pain down. I take 600-800mg each time. What should I do??? General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi Bill.

The innervation causing the pain is related to the lungs (respiratory system). The cough reflex results in a stimulus of pain travelling to the regions you are experiencing it. But I would first recommend an elaborate work up of your respiratory system and a chest xray. The solution lies in respiratory tract and so it would be best to visit a pulmonologist but if you do not have access to one then visit a physician.

Best wishes.
