Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Pain In Xiphoid Process Region Of Rib Cage?
I AM GETTING PAIN IN END OF THE RIB CAGE I.E EXACTLY AT XIPHOID PROCESS REGION FOR THE LAST 18 MONTHS WITH RELIEF FOR SIX MONTHS. THE PAIN SEEMS TO BE EXTERNAL IN THIS REGION. IF I PRESS THE AREA, I FEEL PAIN STRONGER. THE PAIN STAYS FOR ALL THROUGH OUT THE DAY. IT SOMETIMES GETS INTO THE BACK... DOES NOT RADIATE INTO ARMS...BUT ONLY SPREADS AT THE BACK. DRUGS LIKE PPI INHIBITORS ETC HAVE NOT GIVEN ANY RELIEF. SOMETIMES THE PAIN GOES OFF WITHOUT ANY REASON. PAIN RELIEVING DRUGS ARE ALSO NOT GIVING ANY RELIEF. DIAGNOSTIC TESTS WERE DONE FOR HEART. NO PROBLEMS SEEN. ENDOSCOPY, ABD SCAN, CT ABD. WITH CONTRAST WAS DONE. FOUND LAZ LES. BUT THE DOCTOR SAYS IT IS NOT THE CAUSE FRO THE PAIN. THEY ADVISED TO GO FOR HEART TESTS AGAIN.
The pain you're saying, does it go / reduce on hot compresses? Also, we should get an endoscopy done coz gastritis can lead to such pain and further can complicate. Hence, we should rule out other causes before you continue taking PPi / antacids.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
