They found a 6mm nodule on my thyroid when they did a C-Spine MRI. Just wondering what it means. I have RA, Fibro, IBS, DDD, Chronic pain, I have recently been having alot of pain on my jaw, ear and neck. It really bothers me like when you try to rest your chin in your hand. I am 53 yrs. old and just have alot of health issues.
The thyroid nodule is just a localized overgrowth of thyroid cells. The nodule may either be inactive or, produce additional thyroid hormone.
It should be followed up after 6 months with a repeat MRI to detect increase in its size, which may point towards malignancy. This occurs in a very few cases.
A blood test to assess Thyroid hormone levels will give an indication if the nodule is inactive or active.
