Hello,
It seems that you are suffering from
bronchitis, the most common complication of flu. It is associated with cough and sometimes is deep and painful. The cough might last for several weeks after flu, as in your case. A characteristic of this year's flu is the
prolonged cough, fatigue and general weakness. The deep and
frequent cough is really disturbing, and because relevant muscles and diaphragm are involved, you may feel tired. Every deep cough is associated with pain in the chest.
Try to manage your condition following general rules of care: be optimally hydrated, take some rest, and also use some pain relievers (paracetamol/
ibuprofen). In case the cough is very disturbing, you can use some cough suppressant.
Please monitor your body temperature. As long as you don't have a fever, then this treatment should be enough. But if fever appears (38.5 Celsius degrees or more) and the cough does not alleviate for the next week, then you might need to consult with your doctor and undergo the standard evaluation of the respiratory tract: chest x-ray and probably
spirometry (measuring of lung function).
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Ervin Toçi
