What Causes Pain While Urinating During Menstruation?

I don t usually feel pain during my menstruation but when I started bleeding I felt pain when I urinate. I do not have the urge to urinate frequently. I had few history of UTI in the past. So I was confused if I have UTI or not. My urine has strong or foul odor. In the past two nights there were discomfort and pain after voiding. Is it possible that I am having UTI now?

Hi..

Thanks for your query with HCM..

You are a person with no menstruating pain but now has discomfort lower abdomen,no urge in urination and you are worried about UTI because you have past history of same.

Do not worry.

You might develop menstruating pain any cycle or it could be an UTi also because ladies are prone for infection during this period.

In either of the case drink water plenty, keep changing your napkins, clean you personal parts with clean water and soap .You lot of natural acidifier like lemon juice.

Incase the pain continues or fever with chillness develop you need to do a urine complete examination and take medicines on advice of a doctor in person.

If I have a patient like this in my outpatient department i would order for urine complete examination, send the urine for culture and sensitivity and take up ultrasound scan of abdomen also ,if pus cells are more.I will give an antibiotic like nitrofurantoin 100mg twice a day which is antibiotic that gets concentrated in urinary tract and a acidifier like potassium citrate 15ml twice a day mixed with water for at least 14 days and will modify the medicine as per the culture report .

Hope this helps.

Take care.
