Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I get severely painful leg spasms which lasts 4-6 weeks which makes walking and stairs very difficult leading to purple bruised ankles. I have tried, 4 litres of water per day, magnesium supplements, hot spicy foods as suggested by doctors and google but nothing seems to work. Any ideas?
Hi, I had gone through your question and understand your concerns.
As you mention it may be sign of lack of some nutrients such as pottasium, magnesium or calcium so this is first tjing to consider. But also this may be sign of neuropathic or vascular issues. Vascular are more common and include arterial or venous trhombosis or so called DVT. DVT means that clot is formed inside the big leg vessel. So you need to do Doppler ultrasound to rule this. Vein thrombosis which is manifested with unilateral swelling of the leg, pain in calf and lividity of the skin. Arterial one is more dangerous and it is manifested with pain in rest or after short walk. In both cases arteriograohy may be necessary and then further treatment planned.
Hope this answers your question. If you have additional questions or follow up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your questions.
Wishing you good health.
