What Causes Painful Lump On The Areola?

i am a 25 year old female, im pregnant. last week i realized i have a small round bump on the inside of my left breast right between the bottom of my nipple and the areola. its tender to the touch, stabbing pain when touched. do i need to go to the hospital?

Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I understand your concern.
It appears from your description that you could be having infection around the areola region. Since you are pregnant, this could have been aggrevated due to the hormonal changes that would be happening.
Kindly do the following to overcome the same:
1. Take a course of antibiotics like Amoxacillin for infection.
2. Take Tablet Paracetamol for pain and inflammation.
3. Clean the area with mild antiseptic solution like Savlon and keep the area under good hygiene.
4. Avoid tight fitting dresses.
In case the lump doesn't subside and turns into abscess, it needs to be drained surgically. Kindly consult Surgeon or Gynecologist for appropriate management.
