What Causes Painful Swallowing With Hoarseness And Headache?
I ve had pain when swallowing for over a year. About 10 months ago after having pain for 3-4 months I had an EGD. Showed no abnormality. About another 6 months in I decided to see an ENT because I was still having swallowing pain plus hoarseness when talking a lot. He put something down my nose into my throat, and saw nothing abnormal. Now the pain is much worse when swallowing plus when I press on my throat or turn my head I feel discomfort. The swallowing pain is constant, never goes away.
The EGD and scope by the ENT doctor would have shown any structural lesions in the throat or esophagus.
Since these were normal, you may need imaging of surrounding structures by CT. This is to make sure that there are no lesions around the throat or esophagus that may be affecting them.
If this is normal then your doctor may need to consider whether the pain is nerve related. Abnormal function of the nerves, neuropathy, can also be associated with pain.
There are different causes, blood tests and possible nerve conduction tests may be needed.
I hope this helps
