What Causes Painful Swelling In The Knee Post Recovery From A Fracture?
I fell 2 years ago and after waiting 4 days my sister took me to the ER, I had fractured my fibia & tibia & shaddered my knee cap. I had to be rushed to OR. He put my knee together using ²1, had physical therapy & healed very well. For the past 4 days I ve had severe pain in my knee right on the knee cap & as far down almost to my ankle. I ve had up above my knee has swollen and hurt some but not to the severity of pain I am now. Can you give me ideas of what it be? Today it has began to swell above & below the knee
If there is no history of recent trauma then it is possible that the pain may be due to osteoarthritis of the knee. Any previous history of trauma, particularly of a joint, can later predispose the person to osteoarthritis of the joint.
Rest and elevation of the leg may be helpful. The use of pain medication such as Ibuprofen, Naproxen or Cataflam- would be helpful as well.
If there is continued worsening, then you should be seen because imaging may be needed.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Michelle Gibson James, General & Family Physician
