What Causes Painful Thyroid Nodules In The Neck?

I have thyroid nodules on one side of my neck and have recently (within the past week or two) had sudden pain on that side of my neck. My doctor said unless it was constant, I didn t have to come in right away, but it hurts me when it does flare up . What could that mean? /What could I do to help/stop it until I go for an appointment later this month?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Without examining it won’t be appropriate to say anything about nature of the thyroid nodule. Along with that there is need of some diagnostic tests which might include a biopsy as well.

Till you see the doctor, I suggest manage the pain with OTC painkillers like paracetamol or ibuprofen.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Manisha Auradkar, General & Family Physician
