What Causes Persistent Cough With Sinus Drainage While Recovering From Pneumonia?

My husband is recovering from pneumonia diagnosed on 6/15. We had an ER visit two days ago. All labs were acceptable except the lymphocyte percent 4.25% He has been sleeping 98% of each 24hrs, and is still terribly fatigued. His lungs are clear, but is still coughing with sinus drainage. Is this lab result of concern at this point. I am trying to decide if he should see his internist again. ER sent us home after IV fluids and rocephin. His oxygen level is 94%. Is it unusual to be still totally fatigued?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

He has been given intravenous antibiotics for his pneumonia. It should be effective in clearing infection. However, if still there is no significant recovery as you have told than it's time to investigate further with sputum microscopy examination and culture. You should consult him to pulmonologist for detailed evaluation. Give him more oral fluid and more fruit juices.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
