What Causes Persistent Diarrhea After A Colonoscopy?
ok I have had diarrhea for about six weeks before I had a colonoscopy. After the procedure i had some firmer stools for a short time and now i am experiencing the type of diarrhea like when I took the prep medicine the day before the procedure. Today i have 6 visits to the toilet and saw just brown water.
The commonest causes I can think about are as follows: Disturbed bacterial flora balance due to medications for colonoscopy. An actual intestinal infection. May be ulceration of colon or so. Since you have not mentioned the findings of colonoscopy and reports of biopsy it is difficult to know the cause. I would advise you the following in such a situation: Get the stool tests done for 3 consecutive days. Consult your Doctor and get started on probiotics. Antibiotics and metronidazole if there is any evidence of an intestinal infection. Take Electrolyte solution and plenty of oral fluids to avoid dehydration and electrolyte imbalance. Further management as per the reports of colonoscopy, biopsy and consultation with a Gastroenterologist.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
