What Causes Persistent Diarrhea And Vomiting Along With Fever?

my daughter was told today that she probably has the flu, strep negative. She has had a fever for 24 hours, diarrhea and throwing up. Her body hurts really bad, she is dizzy and tingling . The doctor said that her fever was only 99, but she feels really warm and flushed. He gave her Tamiflu and a shot of Phenergan this morning. She is taking ondansetron HCL every 8 as needed. She has had two after her shot and threw one of those up. She continues to use ice packs and it is not helping her, any suggestions? At what point do I need to take additional measures.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

It sounds like she may have influenza, especially with those given systemic symptoms.

If you notice signs of dehydration such as significantly reduced urine output or severe vomiting even with those current antiemetic treatment leading to an inability to take any oral fluids down to maintain hydration.

I advise to take her to ER for IV hydration. With current persistent vomiting, you may want to keep her with a clear liquid diet and work on oral rehydration therapy with either Gatorade or Pedialyte by giving her sips of fluids frequent basis; like every 5-10 minutes over an hour for her to have an adequate amount of fluid goal.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
