What Causes Persistent Diarrhea, Hives, Weakness And Blood In Stool?

About 3 or 4 times in the last year and a half I ve had allergy type symptoms accompanied with diarrhea. I get hives, feel weak (maybe dehydration) etc. The bouts have lasted a few hours, things subside and go back to normal until 4-5 months down the road. Today when I got home I did go a bit again, Still liquid but now bright red bloody. I feel no pain but concerned. Another point is that 2 1/2 years ago I had a sleeve gastrectomy. Wondered what might be the issue. I plan to make a Dr. appointment tomorrow no matter.

Hi,

While there can be multiple causes for your illness, the most common remains only two, allergies and infection.

The presentation explained by you can be due to allergy to some foods, be it food per se or any additive or preservative. Or it could be because of gastrointestinal infection.

In both these situations, I would suggest getting full blood workup and allergy testing done to known the exact etiological agent.

You should get stool examination to know if there is any parasitic infestation being responsible for it.

Meanwhile, do take a bland diet. Fatty, fried, or spicy foods could be behind your stomach woes.

They can wreak havoc on your gut as your body digests them. If you eat more nutritious foods, with a focus on veggies and fiber, you’ll digest things at a healthy speed, and your stomach will thank you.

Water helps keep things moving in your gut so you stay regular. Pay attention to your body when you’re thirsty, and have a glass of water, not soda.

Refrain from Alcoholic and caffeinated beverages. Wash your hands regularly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
