Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Seven 1/2 month old grandson has a viral infection, took him to Akron s Children in Youngstown OH last night. No infected ears, throat, and chest sounded fine. Today makes the third day for this. He is spiking temps of 102 - 103, which we bring down with Children s Motrin. For eye secretions, they prescribed eye drops. Is there anything else we should watch out for??
If it's viral, it is self limiting and only supportive treatment and anti pyretics would be sufficient. However, careful examination by a pediatric specialist to rule out secondary bacterial infection is a must as in that case it would need, antibiotics.
Anti allergic is not given in this age and steam inhalation can be given safely with precautions for congestion.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Wishing you a speedy recovery.
Regards,
Dr. Saddiq Ulabidin, General & Family Physician
