What Causes Persistent Nausea After A Hiatal Hernia Surgery?

My husband had a hiatal hernia surgery on 3/3/17 and after a week he began to experience persistent nausea. He continues to have nausea and the antinausea medication does not help. Is this normal?? Now he noticed that his stool is dark or black everytime he goes. Is this normal? Will his nausea ever go away. Please help, his age is 33 years old.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

The nausea can be part of reflux from recent surgery. The black stool suggests internal GI bleed and same should be handled very vigilantly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel,
General Surgeon
