Hello,
Your doctor may very well be correct. You should assure that she avoids straws, carbonated drinks, citrus, and tomato products on her
liquid diet as this may aggravate the condition. She should not lay down after drinking for 30 minutes and keep her on lactose-free products as long as she is
vomiting. Adding a product called lactase will break down the milk sugar lactose that may cause gas and vomiting. You can buy lactase pills or lactase milk depending on your situation. For example, if she has ice cream (allowed on a full liquid diet) it has milk sugar in it you may want to give her lactase pills to break down the lactose.
Greek yogurt has a low lactose content. How long has she been on a liquid diet and how is her weight? It sounds like a potential problem with
malnutrition due to her inability to eat a balanced diet. I suggest a liquid
multivitamin as well. If her problem has been going on this long further medical tests are warranted such as a swallowing evaluation with video-
fluoroscopy. Your doctor should be running additional tests to determine the source of her symptoms so they can be treated comprehensively.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
