Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi, I developed a pin head rash on my stomach last tues it gradually covered my whole abdominal area then spread onto my shoulders then down my arms a few on my back and buttocks , it is now starting to go down my legs more on the shins than the top, none on my face neck feet or hands. the doctor has put me on a 120mg antihistamine and 10mg antihistamine. I had a blood test with high white blood cell abnormality readings and esr abnormlity . do you agree this is an allergy?
Hello, If you have pin head rashes I think you might be stating small round lesions on the skin. Such lesions are not characteristic for allergy; however, some people can develop such lesions.
But in your case there is elevated WBC and ESR changes and I think you might be having fever as well due to high WBC. I think the lesions can be a sign of infection rather than allergy given the lab data. I would suggest you taking a course of antibiotic like amoxicillin or augmentin along with antihistamines.
You must also remember that to differentiate between a viral and bacterial rash clinical and lab data is crucial. Therefore it might be helpful if you reevaluate with your doc and perform a culture to conclude the diagnosis. This is essential as antibiotic therapy against viruses are ineffective and not recommended.
