What Causes Pinkish Vaginal Bleeding During Menstrual Cycle After Taking Birth Control?
Hi, I am 24 and started birth control 2 months ago. My last period was normal, but this is the second period I ve had on birth control. I m 3 days late starting my period on my placebo pills and my period is coming out a bit red but mostly as a black/brown paste with an unfamiliar odor. Today was my first day of my period. I dont believe I am pregnant as I am having normal cramps and the flow is still somewhat pink/red making me think it is my menstrual cycle. Is this normal or should I go see my doctor? Thank you.
Hello and welcome to HCM, Birth control pills bring a change in ones menstrual cycle. The cycles become more regular after taking birth control pills. The bleeding which occurs is called withdrawal bleeding and it may vary from routine menstrual bleeding. However, there is nothing to worry. When on birth control pills there is no chance of conception except when the pills are missed. If pill missed for 1 day, it can be taken when you remember. However, when missed for 2 days, the pills become ineffective and new cycle should be started.
Thanks and take care Dr Shailja Puri
