What Causes Pregnancy Symptoms And Test To Be Negative?

I have been on Implanon since March 2010. And I think I'm having pregnancy symptoms. I am nauseous and it has been waking me up out of my sleep. I have VERY sore breasts (especially around the nipples), I have been having heartburn and it's worse than ever and it occurs mostly at night. I am very moody and whiney here recently. I can't sleep at night. I have been very itchy and had some vaginal discharge. I have taken 2 at-home pregnancy test that have been negative but I still think I'm pregnant. Am I?

Hello and welcome,

There are many reasons for this.
High levels of the hormone progesterone produces symptoms of nausea, vomiting, weight gain, sore breasts similar to pregnancy. So this may be due to the implant. A course of estrogens helps relieve these symptoms in some women while some may need to remove the implant.

Another cause is pseudo cyesis where there is no pregnancy but women get pregnancy symptoms.

Hormonal imbalances of the thyroid as well as the female reproductive hormones may also lead to similar symptoms.

Pregnancy tests come positive when the pregnancy is atleast 3 weeks. So you may wait and repeat the tests after 3 weeks. If it is still negative, then pregnancy is ruled out. Other option is to see your doctor and get evaluated and may get a blood test or a scan to rule out pregnancy. The evaluation will also help determining the cause of the symptoms and then help in further management.

So do not worry just get an examination.
