Hi,
Paragard which is a copper containing IUCD, though rarely can lead to fewer side effects. According to your history as two urine pregnancy test kits gave negative results and Paragard is claiming almost 99% protection rate, the possibility of pregnancy is less. According to the literature, Paragard can lead to side effects like
irregular periods,
pelvic inflammatory disease which can present with
pelvic cramps, fatigue, urinary tract symptoms etc. Breast tenderness can be seen as part of premenstrual hormonal fluctuation. But as Paragard is non
hormonal contraceptive, weight gain not a common side effect of this according to manufacturers.
As the symptoms are bothering you, better to get evaluated. Please consult your Gynecologist once, get examined and go for an ultrasound, urine routine and microscopy. With this work-up the position of IUCD, the possibility of pelvic and /or
urinary tract infection can be identified and treatment can be planned accordingly. In case of infection, both the partners should be treated simultaneously to prevent the recurrence.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Sree Gouri S. R., OBGYN
