Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Pressure In The Head And Tinnitus While On Doxycycline Monohydrate?
I ve been taking 100 mg of doxycycline monohydrate 2 times a day for about a week since I was discharged from the hospital for a sepsis infection and the last 2 days I have had a feeling of increased head pressure and intermediate ringing in my ears occasionally. I was wondering if I should stop taking this medication immediately until I know for sure if it is the cause of these symptoms, but I m afraid to stop fearing the infection will come back. I m suppose to take this antibiotic for 1 more month.
Ringing in the ear (tinnitus) can occur with doxycycline. However, it is not a serious problem and is reversible. So there is no need to worry about it, just complete 5-day course.
The only precaution for doxycycline is, it should not be given to children or pregnant women.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
